What is Moneypuck?
You've seen us talk about it, but what the heck is moneypuck?!
If you're like us, you experienced moneypuck firsthand in an EXCRUCIATING fashion. You load up your favorite NHL game on Xbox or Playstation, join a game mode you've never played before, leading by one with a minute left, then BOOM, the other team scores and is somehow up by one to end the game. That, my friends, is moneypuck.
You see, when moneypuck is active, every goal counts for double. So, like the example above, you could be down by 1, score a goal, and if it's moneypuck time, then you're actually in the lead now.
WE'RE INTRODUCING THAT INTO TOURNAMENT PLAY
During the round robin phase of the Reindeer Classic, when there's 1 minute left in the game, green lights around the rink will turn on. Once these lights are on, goals count for double. And it's not just for the first goal scored. It continues for the duration of the last minute! This could lead to some serious lead changes during this time, so be on the lookout for these lights!
During the playoff phase of the tournament, the lights will turn on during the last minute of play BUT also randomly one other time during every playoff game. A randomizer will choose which minute of the period (between minutes 10 & 4) that the lights will turn on. During this time goals will also count for double. That means during playoffs you will have 2 full minutes of moneypuck time! Use this to your advantage and you're looking at a serious goal differential on your hands!
As with anything, if you have any questions about this or the tournament, don't hesitate to reach out! See you all out there!
